The Barbican Theatre and Peoples Palace Projects brought AfroReggae over to London to perform and to lead drumming workshops with children in schools in East London, in some of the poorest areas of the capital. These photos were taken at these workshops.
AfroReggae was created in the wake of a brutal police massacre in a favela in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The group aim to counteract the violent drug industry and police oppression, by educating young people living in slums through music, dance and theatre. They have also performed as a band at venues across the world.
